Let It Snow!

For Alannah’s first birthday, her parents were decorating with a snowy theme. In making her cake, I wanted to keep the colors muted, give her lustrous snow, and of course all the cuteness that a one year old deserves!

I made a big igloo out of vanilla cake and covered both the cake and board in one large sheet of white fondant. Taking a little tool with a rounded end, I “drew” the ice bricks on the igloo. Then I made little fondant snowmen, a polar bear, and a penguin and dressed them up with hats and scarves. Big flakes of edible glitter made the lustrous snow effect I was going for. The final touch was a little flag that read “Happy 1st Birthday Alannah!”. To go with the cake were moist chocolate cupcakes with white buttercream frosting, and edible glitter for the snowy look.

Today was a very snowy day… and I believe a few of those big sparkly flakes flew just for Miss Alannah’s big day!

Happy Birthday, Alannah!
